Road Agent is an overhead driving and shooting game on a highway that twists forever, and you can play Road Agent unblocked in your browser with a keyboard, mouse, gamepad or touch. Your ride is a blue sports car with two guns pointing forward, and the cars around you are a mix of attackers and regular drivers. The trick is to wreck the first group while sparing the second. Curves are generated at random, so every drive feels new.
On the Road
Hit Play and the car pulls away and picks up to a steady pace. You can go faster or back off, though once cruising you will never fall below a set minimum speed. Top speed is roughly three times that minimum. The road has three lanes, with a little shoulder on each side, and it bends in smooth curves with the odd straight stretch.
For the first few seconds, two lines of hints sit at the bottom of the screen: one lists the controls, the other reminds you that hostiles chase you, that oil kills pursuers, and that the armored car has to be rammed or oiled.
How Scoring Works in Road Agent
Distance adds to your score all the time, and it adds faster the quicker you drive. Knocking out enemies adds a lot more, and those kill points are multiplied.
| Car | What to expect | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Red blade car | Blades on its sides, three hits | 200 |
| Yellow gunner | Fires back, three hits | 300 |
| Light blue armored car | Immune to bullets | 500 |
| Blue sedan or brown wagon | Innocent driver | minus 750 |
After three enemy kills your multiplier becomes x2, and after seven it reaches x3, announced on screen each time. Shooting an innocent resets your multiplier, though it does not undo your progress toward the next oil slick or smoke screen. Civilians are also far slower than you, so you come up on them quickly.
How the Traffic Changes
At the start, only about three in ten new cars are hostile, and all of those are blade cars. As your distance grows, the hostile share climbs to over half, and gunners and armored cars start mixing in until they make up most of the enemy traffic. New cars also arrive more often the farther you get.
Attackers tend to cruise beside the traffic for a bit before surging toward you. Blade cars are the quickest chasers, gunners a little slower, and armored cars slower still but impossible to shoot down.
Lives and Gadgets
Three lives come with every run, and you earn a spare for each 10,000 points, with five as the cap. You lose a life by crashing into any car apart from the armored type, or by taking a bullet.
Gadgets come from kills too. You gain a slick every fourth kill and a smoke screen every sixth, holding five of each at most. A slick lands behind your bumper, stays for eight seconds and wrecks whoever rolls across it. A smoke cloud hangs for about four and a half seconds. Cars inside it swerve around without chasing you and stay confused for a moment after they leave, and gunners in the cloud fire wildly. Both counts appear on the bottom bar.
Road Agent Tips
- Fire carefully around civilians. Your guns only shoot forward, so an innocent car that slips in front of you will soak up your shots.
- Leave oil for pursuers. It drops behind you, which is exactly where chasers come from.
- Pop smoke when surrounded. It scatters a pack that has you pinned.
- Keep pushing armored cars. Staying in contact builds up the shove until they leave the road.
- Protect a big multiplier. At x3, one stray bullet into a civilian costs more than the 750-point fine.
- Spend the early quiet. The opening stretch has only blade cars, which is the easiest time to build kills toward your first oil and smoke.
Mistakes New Players Make
Holding fire the whole time is the big one. It feels safe, but civilians drift into your line, and each one costs 750 points plus the multiplier. Another is driving at top speed constantly. Speed adds distance points, but it also shrinks the time you have to react when you close on slow civilians. Last, new players often waste shots on the armored car. Bullets just bounce off with a ricochet sound, so switch to ramming the moment you see it.
Controls and Devices
Arrows or A and D steer, and up and down or W and S change speed. Hold Space to shoot, press Z for oil and X for smoke. The mouse works too: the car tracks the pointer and the left button fires. Gamepads and touch are supported as well, though touch has no oil or smoke buttons. On a Chromebook, the keyboard is the easiest way to reach everything at once.
A run can end in a minute or stretch much longer as you get better, so it fits a short break, and chasing a higher multiplier makes it easy to play again.
