Free Throw unblocked is a quick basketball shooting game with a one-minute clock and a hoop that won’t stay put. Your ball waits on the left side of a dim gym floor, while the basket glides back and forth on the right. Rounds are short, so you can squeeze in a few tries during a break and chase a new best each time.
How to Play Free Throw
The clock starts the moment you press Play on the title screen. Press on the ball and drag toward the spot you want to throw at. The farther you drag, the harder the throw, up to a full-power limit. A ring follows your finger or cursor, and a short line of dots shows the first part of the ball’s path.
That dotted preview stops well before the rim on purpose. It tells you the direction and the early arc, but the finish is your call. Let go to fire. If you release after only a tiny drag, the shot cancels, which saves you when you grab the ball by accident.
A fresh ball flies onto the spot right after each throw, taking about a third of a second. You do not have to wait for the last shot to land before taking the next one.
Scoring and the Hot Streak
Every basket is worth something, but clean ones pay more:
- 2 points for a make that bounces off the rim or the backboard.
- 3 points for a swish that touches nothing, with a big golden SWISH banner and a screen shake.
- +1 per make once you are on fire.
You catch fire after three straight baskets, and a toast in the corner reads “+1 per shot until you miss.” The bonus stacks with swishes, so a swish while hot is worth 4. A miss only counts once the ball has dropped off the bottom of the screen. Until then, your streak is safe.
How the Hoop Moves
The hoop is your real opponent. At the start it drifts slowly across a short distance. Over the 60 seconds, the code steadily widens its sweep to about two and a half times the starting width and speeds it up to nearly three times the starting pace.
So the first twenty seconds and the last twenty feel like different games. Early on you can almost aim at where the hoop is. Near the end you have to throw at where it is going to be.
When the clock hits 0:00, a buzzer sounds but the hoop keeps sliding until every ball in the air comes to rest. Then a “TIME!” screen shows your score and best, with buttons to play again or go back to the title.
Your First Round
Spend the opening seconds finding one drag length that reaches the rim. Throw a few shots while changing only the angle. Once one drops, you have a reference point for the rest of the round.
Next, watch the hoop for a beat. It swings smoothly from side to side, like a pendulum, so it slows down at each end before turning back. Those turnaround points are the easiest moments to hit.
Tips for a Higher Score
- Throw high. A lofted ball drops into the basket at a friendlier angle. Flat shots tend to clank off the front of the rim.
- Aim for the turnaround. Time your release so the ball arrives as the hoop reaches the end of its slide and pauses.
- Lead the target late in the round. Once the hoop speeds up, picture where it will be when your ball gets there.
- Build your streak early. The slow hoop in the first seconds is your best chance to get on fire.
- Keep shooting while hot. Every basket is worth more during a streak, so don’t hold out for a perfect look.
- Shoot right before the buzzer. A ball still in the air at 0:00 can score, so always have one last shot up.
Mistakes New Players Make
The most common one is dragging away from the hoop, the way you would pull back a slingshot. Here you drag toward your target. The other is changing both angle and power after every miss. Change one thing at a time, and you will find the right shot much faster.
Controls, Devices and Saving
You can play with a mouse, a touch screen or a gamepad. On a controller, the left stick aims, how far you push it sets the power, and the A button shoots. Esc or the menu icon pauses, and the game also pauses itself whenever a menu is open. The options menu has a volume setting for when you need it quiet.
On a phone, turn it sideways. On a school Chromebook, the trackpad works fine, though a mouse gives finer control over power.
