All 12 arcade games to play now

Arcade games run on one loop: play, crash, try again a little better. Nobody needs a tutorial. That makes them a great fit for the last few minutes of a period, when you want something fun but can’t commit to a long game. Here is how the twelve arcade picks on the site differ, so you can grab the one that fits the moment.

Arcade Games by How Long a Round Lasts

Under a minute. Mole Tap is ten moles and done. Each one stays up for 750 milliseconds, and faster bonks score more. Wing Dash is a one-button flight past pipe gaps, and most early runs end within seconds, which is exactly why it is hard to stop.

A few minutes. Paddle Ball is first to 10 points against the computer, and the ball speeds up with each hit. Skyhop is an endless climb where the ball bounces by itself and you only steer left and right.

Until you lose. Snake Game keeps going as long as you avoid walls and your own tail on a 24 by 18 board. Missile Defense sends wave after wave of rockets at six cities. Brickout has five brick layouts to work through.

What Makes Each One Different

Many of these grew out of old ideas, but each one has its own twist.

  • Snake Game adds a golden bonus that shows up once your score hits 5 and vanishes after 6 seconds. There is also a VERSUS mode, where you race a computer snake to 10 apples.
  • Brickout shows each power-up as an icon on its brick, so you can aim for the laser, the wider paddle or the extra ball you actually want.
  • Andromeda Invaders has no fire button. Your cannon shoots on its own, so you only choose where to stand. Each enemy ship takes three hits and darkens from orange to red as it weakens.
  • Astroblast gives you a triangle ship that keeps sliding after you stop thrusting. Big rocks split into medium ones, then small ones, and saucers shoot back.
  • Coil has no buttons during play. You draw loops with your pointer to trap blue orbs and keep red bombs outside your circles.
  • Bobble Pop is part puzzle. Bank bubbles off the walls of a narrow tube and burst groups of three before the field sinks to the red line. A dotted guide shows where each shot goes.
  • Road Hopper moves a frog one square per hop across a highway and a river of drifting logs, with five lily pads to fill before the countdown runs out.
  • Missile Defense asks you to aim where a rocket is heading. Three cannons each get 10 shots per wave, and the nearest one with ammo fires.

Controls: One Button, Pointer or Keys

If you only want one input, Wing Dash and Mole Tap are the simplest. Coil and Bobble Pop are pointer games, which feel natural with a mouse or a finger.

Keyboard players will like Snake Game, Road Hopper and Paddle Ball, which take the arrow keys or W A S D. Astroblast uses the most keys: arrows to turn and thrust, Space or Z to fire, and Shift or X for a hyperspace jump when you are cornered.

Phones, Tablets and School Laptops

Nearly every game here is marked as phone-friendly. Mole Tap and Coil are especially good on a touch screen, because the whole game is tapping or sliding. Andromeda Invaders is only partly ready for phones, so a laptop gives you a better time with it.

On a Chromebook, keep the volume low in class. Several of these play music or sound effects, and Andromeda Invaders lets you mute with M. If Coil runs slowly, it offers a button to turn off its background grid effects.

Tips for Higher Scores

  1. Hit with the paddle’s edge. In Paddle Ball, an edge hit sends the ball off at a sharp slant. In Brickout, catching it near an edge does the same thing.
  2. Lead your targets. Missile Defense and Astroblast both reward firing where things will be, not where they are now.
  3. Go for gold only when it is close. In Snake Game, the golden bonus is on a timer, and a long detour can leave you boxed in.
  4. Find a rhythm. Wing Dash never changes its rules, so steady, even flaps beat panicked tapping.
  5. Cut clusters loose. In Bobble Pop, every bubble that falls because nothing holds it up anymore is worth 5 points, so popping the right group can clear a big chunk at once.
  6. Read lanes before hopping. In Road Hopper, wait for a gap in the next lane instead of hopping and hoping.

Arcade Games: common questions

What are unblocked arcade games?

They are short, score-based browser games that load from this site with no download. The rules are simple and restarts are instant, so you can play, crash and try again in seconds. Whether a school network allows the site is up to that network.

Which arcade game can I play with one button?

Wing Dash uses a single flap: Space, the up arrow, a click or a tap. Mole Tap only needs clicks or taps, and Skyhop asks for nothing but left and right.

Do these games save my high score?

Several do. Snake Game, Brickout, Wing Dash, Missile Defense and Skyhop keep your best result in your browser on that device. Clearing site data or using a private window resets it.

Can I use a game controller?

Yes, in Snake Game, Brickout, Astroblast, Bobble Pop, Road Hopper, Skyhop, Paddle Ball and Wing Dash. Every arcade game here also works with a keyboard, mouse or touch.
