Best Unblocked Arcade Games for School, Sorted by Round Length

Our 12 arcade games grouped by how long a round lasts, how you control them and whether they work on a phone, with clear notes on the few that need a keyboard.

Best Unblocked Arcade Games for School, Sorted by Round Length

The best unblocked arcade games for school are the ones that fit your break and your device. On Totally Science, Mole Tap and Wing Dash finish in seconds, Coil and Snake Game run a minute or two, and Brickout or Astroblast can fill a lunch period. If your Chromebook has no touchscreen, skip the three games that need keys and start with a click-only pick.

All 12 of our arcade games are free and open in a browser tab.

How We Sorted These Games

We grouped the games by three things you care about during a school break:

  • Round length: how long one try usually lasts before it ends or resets.
  • Controls: whether you need a keyboard, or whether a click or tap is enough.
  • Phone-friendly: whether the game has touch controls that work on a small screen.

Round lengths are rough. A careful player can last much longer in endless games, and a bad start can end a run in seconds.

Under a Minute: The Fastest Rounds

These are the picks for a few spare minutes before the bell. Each one starts almost instantly.

Mole Tap

Mole Tap sends up exactly ten moles per round, and each one stays up for 0.75 seconds. A full round is over in a little over 20 seconds. Faster clicks earn more points, up to 1,000 per mole.

Wing Dash

Wing Dash is a one-button flyer. You flap with Space, the up arrow, a click or a tap to steer a bird through pipe gaps. The pipe speed and gap size never change, so it is all about rhythm.

Skyhop

In Skyhop, a bouncing ball jumps by itself, and you only steer left and right. One missed landing usually ends the climb, so each try is short. There is no mouse steering, so use the arrow keys or the touch stick.

A Minute or Two: Short Sessions

These games run a little longer, but a round still fits a normal break.

Coil

Coil has no buttons during play. You draw small loops around blue orbs with your pointer and avoid trapping red bombs. It has no sound, which suits a quiet room.

Snake Game

Snake Game has two modes: endless PLAY and a VERSUS match against a computer snake, first to 10 apples. Rounds last a minute or two. It needs the arrow keys or W A S D, or a direction pad on a touchscreen.

Bobble Pop and Paddle Ball

Bobble Pop has you aim colored bubbles into matching groups of three or more. It is about planning more than speed, and the tall board fits a phone held upright.

Paddle Ball is a one-on-one rally against the computer, and the first to 10 points wins. You can move with keys, the mouse or a finger.

Longer Runs: For Lunch or Free Periods

These games can end fast, but good players can keep going for a long time.

Road Hopper and Missile Defense

Road Hopper has you guide a frog across traffic and a river, one hop at a time. A timer gives you 22 seconds per crossing on level 1, and it gets shorter as you climb.

Missile Defense asks you to click points in the sky to stop falling rockets before they reach six cities. It needs only a mouse, trackpad or tap, and the waves get bigger as you go.

Brickout, Astroblast and Andromeda Invaders

Brickout is a brick-breaking game with five layouts that loop. One board takes a couple of minutes, while a full run can fill a lunch period.

Astroblast is a space shooter where you break rocks and dodge saucers. A run can last two minutes or twenty. It plays with the keyboard, a gamepad or touch controls, not the mouse.

Andromeda Invaders fires for you, so you only slide left and right. It saves no scores, and on a touchscreen you hold arrow buttons under the board.

Honest Notes on Keyboards and Phones

If you play on a tablet, or on a Chromebook folded into tablet mode, you may not have physical keys. If you are unsure how your keys work, Google has a guide on how to use your Chromebook keyboard.

Here is what to keep in mind before you pick:

  1. Keyboard needed: Astroblast, Skyhop and Snake Game need keys unless you have a touchscreen.
  2. Pointer only: Coil, Mole Tap, Missile Defense and Bobble Pop work with just a touchpad or finger.
  3. Sound: Several games play sound effects, so mute your device or use headphones. Coil is silent.
  4. Saves: Best scores stay in your browser on that device only.

No game, including the ones on Totally Science, can promise to load on every school network. If you are curious why, read what unblocked games means. For full screen and touchpad tips, see our guide to playing games on a school Chromebook.

Frequently asked questions

What is the quickest arcade game for a short break?

Mole Tap is the shortest. Every round uses exactly ten moles, and the whole thing takes a little over 20 seconds. Wing Dash is also quick, since one attempt usually lasts a few seconds and a new run is only two taps away. Both work with a mouse click or a tap.

Which arcade games work without a keyboard?

Coil, Mole Tap, Missile Defense and Bobble Pop only need a pointer, so a touchpad, mouse or finger is enough. Brickout, Paddle Ball, Wing Dash and Road Hopper also accept clicks or taps, though they support the keyboard too. Astroblast, Skyhop and Snake Game need keys or a touchscreen.

Can I play these arcade games on my phone?

Most of them, yes. Eleven of the twelve are marked as phone-friendly, with touch controls such as on-screen sticks, direction pads or simple taps. Andromeda Invaders works on touch only partly, through arrow buttons under the board, and quick dodges are easier with real keys.

Do these arcade games save my high score?

Most do, in your browser on that device. Astroblast, Bobble Pop, Brickout, Missile Defense, Road Hopper, Skyhop, Snake Game and Wing Dash keep a best score. Mole Tap, Coil and Andromeda Invaders store nothing, so write a good score down if you want to beat it later.
